With fond memories we pay tribute to the late Andrew Wright 1936 – 2022. Awarded the Balvenie Medal in 2007 for his contribution to piping, he was an accomplished piper who shared his knowledge and time so generously with the piping community especially those who wanted to learn the highland bagpipe.

A previous winner of the Bratch Gorm and Gilles Cup, amongst many other accolades including winning both Gold Medals in 1970, Andrew has been a regular presence at SPSL events ever since. When he turned his attention to teaching many in the London were fortunate enough to learn from him at the annual SPSL summer schools. As a senior judge, Andrew, shared his knowledge with competitors and peers alike. As recently as  2019 he was on the judging panel for the Bratach Gorm. Competitors may recall that as the competition came to an end some of the younger players and spectators  left The Caledonian Club to find respite at a nearby watering hole, Andrew was with them, as the pipes were pulled out. To have such a senior Judge fraternising with the younger players as they got the pipes out is what made Andrew a much loved figure, once again Andrew was benevolent with his time and knowledge. Our sincerest thoughts and condolences are with Isobel and family at this time.
