SPSL Members’ Competition and evening recital – April 4th, 2020 at the Caledonian Club, Belgravia.

The Scottish Piping Society are pleased to announce that after a year’s hiatus, the Members Competition will be held from 11am on April 4th at the Caledonian Club. The Society is also excited to have secured an evening recital double bill with pipers Jonathan Greenlees and Andrew Bova. Both pipers are well known on the Scottish solo circuit and are current members of Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band.

Jonathan is from Lisburn, County Antrim, and is one of the most experienced and respected players in FMM, having joined the band in 1995 and achieving ten World titles. He is well known on the solo circuit winning a number of major prizes including the Dunvegan Medal (Skye), the Strachan Memorial (London), the Braemar Gold Medal, as well as the All Ireland and Ulster senior titles. Jonathan is a Finance Director and now lives in Glasgow.

Andrew is from Perrysburg, Ohio, who currently resides in Glasgow completing a PhD at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with research focusing on competitive Scottish bagpiping since 1947. Andrew has previously won the World Pipe Band Championships with Shotts and Dykehead in 2015 and is a consistently successful solo competitor in the professional grades, competing in the USA, Canada, and Scotland. In addition to his own playing and research, Andrew helps in various teaching aspects within the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s undergraduate degree courses in traditional music and piping, regularly features as a recitalist and instructor at piping workshops in Europe, is a regular contributor to Piping Today Magazine, and works part-time at The National Piping Centre in Glasgow.

  • Open Jig competition (with prize for best amateur)
