SPSL Christmas Invitational Contest - Great night at The Mudlark

The SPSL Christmas Invitational Contest ('Strictly Come Piping')  held at The Mudlark pub, was a resounding success.

Nine pipers played to a packed audience and offered a varied repertoire to suit all tastes (as well as a bit of festive uplift with Santa sgian dubhs, Xmas tree headgear and, in one case, the full 'Santa-in-a-Kilt' treatment).

Audience members travelled from as far away as Ellon, near Aberdeen, to see the event and witnessed Steve Watterston's third win in four years.  Last year's winner, Allan Dunsmore, came a close and creditable second.  All of the pipers played to a high standard and it was especially good to see a number of players from the University Of Bedfordshire band taking part both in the competition and in the audience.

We hope that they enjoyed the experience and that we will see these folk continuing to support SPSL events and featuring in the prize lists before long.

Thanks to Andrew Hall, who almost single-handedly pulls this event together, to each and every one of the players who entertained us royally, and finally, to the audience who got right into the spirit of the thing and supported the players magnificently.

Below, you will find a few pictures from the evening, taken by Gareth Roberts.  If these whet your appetite, keep an eye on this website for piper's clubs, recitals run by the SPSL and, of course, next year's 'Strictly'.
